Best-selling business writer Henry King's main industrial experience was with Royal Oil, which he joined after spending the first few years of his working life with an airline. Although he did well in the world of international corporations, he was disappointed that his new ideas were frequently rejected. One of his jobs as a young manager at Royal Oil was to work out the retail price for motor oil in relation to costs. He saw how the company could improve its process of calculation, but could not persuade his bosses he was right. Eventually King left Royal Oil and became a consultant. He has had several best-selling books published about succeeding as an independent business person, and has articles about his theories appearing regularly in the financial press.
King's main message is that business success lies in going out and meeting people. He himself is rarely in his office. He keeps paperwork to a minimum and spends his time developing relationships with clients. This achieves results, and now he earns more than any of his ex-colleagues who stayed on in the world of corporate business.
The business community is so impressed by King's ideas that he receives invitations to talk about them; and he finds time to visit business schools around the world and lecture about life outside large organizations.
King has started a new career as a lecturer in an international business school.
